CBS Radford Studios
Once Carl Laemmle developed Universal City Studios, Mack Sennett, who produced many of early Hollywood comedies including The Keystone Cops, and films of Charlie Chaplan, Harold Lloyd and W.C. FIelds decided to build his state-of-the-art Mack Sennett studios on a lettuce ranch in the San Fernando Valley known as Laurelwood (now, Studio City).
In the 1930’s Republic Pictures bought the studio to make westerns with John Wayne, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers and action serials like The Lone Ranger,, The Adventures of Captain Marveland a number of Zorro serials.
In the late 1950’s Broadcaster and television production company CBS expanded and leased the property as the CBS Radford Studios. Shows tha have been filmed and taped at CBS Radford include Gunsmoke, Gilligan’s Island, My Three Sons, The Rifleman, Dick Powell’s Zane Grey Theater, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, The Odd Couple, Rhoda, Lou Grant, Falcon Crest, That 70’s Show, Just Shoot Me, Seinfeld, WKRP in Cincinnati, Designing Women, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Will & Grace, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Feud, ET, The Bernie Mack Show, Parks and Recreation, Boy Meets World, Dexter, American Gladiator, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere and many others. CBS Radford also houses the Los Angeles Bureau of the CBS News and the CBS Evening News.
